Who We Serve
In 2011-2012, The Center served 2,222 children and their families. 598 through clinical programs and the remaining 1,624 in Prevention and Consultation programs.
We serve children from birth to their 19th birthday with a focus on the need to identify problems for early intervention. The average age of the child we serve is eight, reflecting our focus on the need to identify problems for early intervention.
Mental and behavioral health problems prevent healthy development and interfere with success in school - hindering education and learning and often affecting positive life choices. The lack of affordable access to psychiatric mental health care for children and adolescents is especially critical in light of research that finds that more than 150,000 Connecticut children and youth currently have at least mild mental disorders. Of these, more than 70,000 have what is known as "serious emotional disturbance," or SED, and an additional 39,000 are extremely functionally impaired.
Our goal is for children to become happy, stay at home (as opposed to residential or in-hospital treatment), make positive choices, and graduate from school.
We offer treatment for a wide spectrum of psychiatric symptoms and experienced trauma. Click on a highlighted item for more information from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
